The Camino Vadiniense is a logical route to follow if you are planning to walk the Camino Lebaniego. These two routes connect the Camino del Norte and the Camino Francés.
Check out the Camino Lebaniego for the first 3 stages to get to Potes. For the Camino Vadiniense we will be starting in Potes where we left off when we finished the Camino Lebaniego.
The start of the beautiful Camino Vadiniense is in Potes, although you might be already at the destination of the Camino Lebaniego: The Monastery of Santo Toribio de Liébanas, a few kilometers ahead.
On its own it’s a short Camino. You can do shorter stages, the stages on this page are just an example. Take a look at the services available in each stage and make your own plan.
When you arrive at Mansilla de las Mulas you might not be done walking so if you have the time, why not continue on The Camino Francés and reach Santiago de Compostela?
What to see on the Camino Vadiniense
The Camino Vadiniense is a lesser-known but breathtaking pilgrimage route that connects the Camino Lebaniego to the Camino Francés, passing through the Picos de Europa. Here are some of its highlights:
1. Picos de Europa National Park
This route takes you through the stunning landscapes of the Picos de Europa, offering dramatic mountain views and rich biodiversity.
2. Monastery of Santo Toribio de Liébana
A key spiritual site, this ancient monastery houses the Lignum Crucis, the largest known piece of Christ’s cross.
3. Riaño Reservoir
A breathtaking man-made lake surrounded by towering mountains, perfect for reflection and photography.
4. San Vicente de la Barquera
A coastal town with a medieval castle and picturesque views, marking the start of the Camino Vadiniensis.
